A Ciderist Mind- Coming Events, Releases and Good News

Hey Ciderheads! Your pal and ciderist, Robby, here to drop some knowledge on you.  We have some exciting things coming up in the next few months in the Bull City Ciderworks fam.  First things first, I have got to tell you about Cider Jam!!

Saturday, September 22nd, we’re going to make some noise in downtown Durham.  We’re closing down the streets and bringing you the second annual CIDER JAM. We’re bringing you music ALL DAY, new ciders, and all the fun you can squeeze into a Saturday.  Our headliner this year is J Gunn and I am stoked! We are bringing hip hop to your ears that night, but some of your new favorite bands will be playing all throughout the day. We have official cider jam t-shirts and merch that will be available that day!  Best of all, this event is FREE! We’re going to have a great time and we want everyone in on the fun. If you have any interest in setting up a booth at cider jam, follow this link and sign up today!

The second bit of good news I have to bring you is about our cider releases. Jack and Oak 2018 will be released on the Friday night before CIDER JAM.  This year’s batch is next level. To celebrate this release we are going to offer this fall favorite in 4 pack bottles for the first time. The new packaging was designed by our ciderist, Mo. She has knocked this one out of the park and I’m so stoked for you to see it!  This will be available in the taprooms so get it while you can!

I got a little ahead of myself.  I have to tell you what’s coming up in the next few weeks! CIDERPOPS are coming back! We figured we would soak in the last little bit of summer before we have to bundle up for those chilly nights are here to stay.  Enough about the cold though, let’s get back to ciderpops. We’re going to have these frozen delights on Monday for Labor Day. Come early and come thirsty. There is a limited supply, so get em while you can.

September 7th, another new cider is coming your way and things will be getting spooky at the cidery.  How you might ask? Ghost peppers. That’s how. I know you spicy ciderheads are missing the El Matador.  You are in luck though. The Spooky Mango is going to light your fire! Different is delicious and this release is no exception.  We’re bringing the hotness back with a vengeance.

Speaking of releases, we have a new release scheduled every two weeks till the end of the year! We are on track to accomplish this with ease and we are pretty proud of this goal.  I need to keep bragging about the team. We accomplished something else that is pretty incredible. If you follow our social media, we have recently been posting about the GLINTCAP awards.  GLINTCAP is the Great Lakes International Cider And Perry competition.  It is one of, if not, THE biggest cider competitions in the world.  We won medals for all 8 ciders that we submitted!  Slow Ryed (wood aged cider) and Cherry Tart (fruited cider) won best in show! I just want to thank all the ciderheads and the entire Bull City team. We couldn’t do this alone, nor would we want to.

The last bit of cool news I want to share is about the Exploratorium!  Our first batch of North Carolina apples will be ready for harvest in the next few weeks.  We have some amazing things in store for all you folks this fall.  Stay tuned to our social media or come by and see what's happening for yourself.  Tours are just about every Saturday.  Sign up online and come see me!

There’s a few more surprises coming down the line and a few big announcements yet to come.  Stay plugged in with us because you are not going to want to miss what’s happening next! Here’s a hint because I can’t help myself....  #CRUSHABULL

PS. If you are a maker or run a great organization, our vendor registration form is live in our store now. Sign up today and come set up with us!  http://www.bullcityciderworks.com/store/vendorform

Santa's Little Helper...

If you are thinking of adopting, love dogs, or are just grey-curious, come out for a pint and some playtime on Sunday, December 17.  Chip and Roscoe will be there, as well as some adoptable dogs from Triangle Greyhound Society and other members of the local Greyhound community.  And it really is a community - there are regular meet ups, a weekly greyhound only play date at Piney Woods dog park, and numerous Facebook and Reddit groups to answer all of your questions, share your successes, and provide all the support you need. We'll be donating $1 from every pint sold at the event to support Triangle Greyhound Society.

Bullhorn Cider Blog

The BULL is charging ahead!

We've created Bullhorn cider blog in order to update the BCC family on exciting progress at Bull City Ciderworks (BCC). It also serves to engage in topics ranging from new ciders and recipes for cooking with cider to the cider industry and national events. We need your help to make this a success, so get on the Bullhorn and blast it out to your friends!

Positive feedback from our KS message a few days ago indicated that we needed to get this message out to everyone. So here we go! April 30th marked our last day at the original 113 S Elizabeth St location. Despite construction not actively commencing on the new Police HQ, the city informed us that we had to vacate to complete some "pre-development". This was a bummer for the BULL; however, the epic closing party memorialized Elizabeth St. and the humble beginnings of craft cider in Durham. The BCC team reflected on the countless memories of time spent with family and friends of the BULL. We also made many new friends that were upset they had not visited sooner! As the night closed, we turned the page to begin a new chapter: Bull City Ciderworks - Cider Exploratorium @ 305 S Roxboro St.

The Cider Exploratorium was delayed by a full site plan review required by the city of Durham. For perspective we identified this location August 2015 and submitted plans to the city of Durham in November 2015. Finally, we have received approval and permits for construction! The project should commence in the next 30 - 45 days with an expected 90-120 day construction period. Recent progress is encouraging and this timeline should coincide with apple harvest at Perry Lowe Orchards. New equipment at the Cider Exploratorium will allow us to create single apple variety ciders, complex barrel-aged ciders, and unorthodox multi-strain fermented ciders with flavors as unique as the people of Durham.

Where's the refreshing Bull City Cider coming from?

After realizing that timelines in Durham would put us out of business, we acted quickly to survive. The 60 BBL tanks of tasty apple juice began fermenting in Lexington, NC on March 3rd, 2016. These larger tanks are allowing us to expand the Bull City Ciderworks family by filling more pint glasses across the state! Check out Lexington taproom schedule here. We're also happy to announce that we will be opening our newest venture Bull City Ciderhouse in Lexington. This will be a gastro-concept with Chef Harry Monds of Bull City Street Food. We're also making space at the Durham headquarters for a similar venture. Updates can be found on social media and we welcome everyone to visit! If you're unable to make it to Lexington, please visit our website for a list of retailers with fresh growlers.

So, what now for the BULL in Durham?

We're working on creative ways to keep the BULL in your life and taps flowing beyond our normal distribution throughout the Triangle. In the coming weeks we'll release a schedule of events that we're planning in conjunction with King's Sandwich Shop of Durham. They've generously offered us a temporary home for the BULL to offer pints. Also, Travis and I loved seeing you all at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham! We'll be around Durham at a variety of events so stay in touch on social media.

The Bull is turning TWO on June 18th!

Come help celebrate in Lexington!! Bull City Street Food bringing the Eats 5-10pm, Zac Baxley Live Music 4:30pm & Emma Lee Live Music 7:30! We'll also have Cider Slushies and Cider Sangria. Bring the family and invite some friends...more details on facebook.
